Steven R. McQueen about the Kiss

Vampire Diaries viewers got the kiss they've been waiting for on Thursday's episode. No, not between Damon and Elena — sorry, Delena fans — but Jeremy and Bonnie.
After a few will-they-or-won't-they scenes this season, Jeremy finally grabbed Bonnie and laid a big wet one on her — and she liked it."There's so much passion between them," Steven R. McQueen told TVGuide.com. "Even though Bonnie feels that it's not right and Jeremy's like, 'I don't give a s---,' eventually that passion got a hold of them and they give in to the temptation they've been holding back from."

So what will the fallout be for Elena, who will understandably find it awkward that her little brother is making out with her best friend?
"It will weird her out, but at the end of the day, she's running from Klaus!" he says.
As for McQueen, he didn't find the kiss strange at all: "You know, I didn't hate it."

Michael Trevino Interview - Tylers Goodbye!

If you've been following-slash-stalking "The Vampire Diaries" star Michael Trevino on Twitter (guilty), you may have noticed that he's been spending an awful lot of time not filming the show. His absence from Atlanta became clear in Thursday night's new episode, "Crying Wolf," in which Tyler decided to leave Mystic Falls behind and fall in with Jules (Michaela McManus) and the wolf pack.

Yes. We cried. Shut up.

We know what you're wondering: Is Tyler coming back? The answer is a definite maybe. He wasn't killed off, which is a good sign for us Tyler fans. Plus, we can assume that breaking the werewolf curse is still a priority.

Trevino visited us at Zap2it to discuss the circumstances of Tyler's grand exit. "It was just too much for him," Trevino says. "Too many cooks in the kitchen, really, because everybody was just trying to get in his head. He's still really lost at that point, and very vulnerable. He needed to leave."

There will be another full moon in Mystic Falls before the end of the season, but the question remains as to whether Tyler will be around for the big night. "We've told the transformation story already," executive producer Julie Plec says. "Now he's moving on to the next part of his journey, which is, "How do I live like this for the rest of my life?" The way that it all fell out, the first part of Tyler's journey ended right when we had a lot to focus on with Elijah and the witches and imminent arrival of Klaus, so we figured it was a good time to give him that hero's goodbye."

When Plec and Kevin Williamson sat down with Trevino to fill him in on his character's fate, it came as a bit of a surprise to him, too. "I knew that there was going to be this battle with the vampires and the werewolves, I knew that somebody was going to have to go," Trevino says. "And when they said it was going to be me, I was kind of like, 'Okay... interesting.'"

It's clear he's not particularly psyched about his extended vacation (hey, the guy loves his job), and he's genuinely just as curious as we are about if and when Tyler will come back into town. "Now my mind's going crazy because I'm wondering what's in store now. When and if Tyler were to come back, either at all, or this season, or maybe he doesn't come back until Season 3 - how's he going to be? How much of a changed person is he going to be?"

Because of the firestorm of vampire vs. werewolf activity in town, Tyler hasn't had much time to mourn for his Uncle Mason, who died at the hand of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) -- literally -- while Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) stood by.

McQueen tells us that he's hoping that Tyler's return also brings back the precarious friendship that was beginning to forge between Tyler and Jeremy. "I really hope that eventually their friendship will blossom again," McQueen says. "Seeing Mason die was a big moment for Jeremy. The only other time he's seen someone die, it was Vicki, and his memory of the night was erased. Seeing Mason killed was the first time that he was part of something that his family legacy really calls for. So there's definitely a lot left to explore for Tyler and Jeremy, and I do hope we see it eventually."

And then, of course, there's Caroline (Candice Accola). Tyler and Matt (Zach Roerig) shared a touching moment before Tyler split. "She loves you, and she needs you," Tyler said. "And to be honest, she deserves someone like you, so you be good to her. Okay?"

We love Tyler and Caroline together, but it's hard to deny the instinctive antagonism between vampires and werewolves. When we ask Trevino if he thinks Caroline is better off without Tyler, he hesitates, before finally saying, "Yes. Yes, I do."

What!? Is Trevino the newest member of Team Matt? Kind of. "I think Matt will balance her out. The thing is, I don't know how she would ever tell him, if she even does tell him. Does she just keep it a secret from him? We know she likes to keep secrets," he says. "Yeah, she's better off with Matt, for balance. It would've been nice, for a vampire and a werewolf [to have a] legit relationship, to see if that would even be possible, but then again, who knows? Tyler's gone, when he comes back, maybe he's going to pursue her again."

We're not sure that Tyler will be feeling particularly amorous if and when he does return to Mystic Falls. From what we know of Jules, Tyler is in for a lot of life changes -- and if we see him again, he's going to be very different from the friendly teenage werewolf we know and love.

Trevino is hoping that when Tyler returns, he'll have matured significantly... even if that means turning against his friends. "If you're a werewolf and you're only going to stick with werewolves, then be that way. If you can't be friends and you have to 86 a few people out of your life, then do that," he says. "I just want him to pick a side and not do both."

After all, Tyler's biggest goal right now is to avoid transforming again. To do that, he needs to break the curse... which means sacrificing Elena. Though Plec doesn't say whether Tyler will return, she does tell us, "As long as the curse is still in play, Tyler has unfinished business."

Tyler remains one of the few characters on the show without an inherent need to protect Elena at all costs. Tonight he proved that he's willing to go to some seriously dangerous lengths to break the curse, though he did have a change of heart in the end. Should we be worried about him returning as a villain?

"You might," Trevino says. "The thing we have to ask now is where is he going, what is he doing, and who is he with? So, when he comes back, what has he been up to? Is he coming back for vengeance? Would he come back to break this curse? Or, would he come back to make peace and see if they can all coexist within Mystic Falls?"

Peaceful coexistence in Mystic Falls? Right.

Weigh in on "Crying Wolf" in the comments section below, vamp fans -- we're dying to hear what you thought of the episode. I'll have my recap up shortly, but in the meantime, don't miss the video interview with Trevino for more on Tyler's big goodbye and his summer plans.

Daniel Gillies 'Elijah' Interview [Spoiler Alert!]

You make Elijah look so sweet that you don’t even want to dislike him, but he rips hearts out! The calm and collected bad guys are the scariest.
I never wanted to play him with any menace... He’s not a sweet person, [but] can you imagine if you’ve lived this long? He must have seen so much death, murdering someone must be like hitting a bug... I’m so lucky to play this character. Maybe that’s the joy you’re sensing... I love playing him. He’s so fun.

You and Nina Dobrev work extremely well together.
From the moment I walked on set, she was just immediately kind to me. It doesn’t happen that often. It’s the nicest crew and cast ever... Nina, she’s what? 21? I’m 34... She’s smarter than me. And boy does she work hard, she’s playing both roles. She’s there every day and she doesn’t bitch, and she’s tough and she knows she has a great thing. She cares and she always has a sense of humor. She’s just vicious and she rips on me. We tease each other all day and I think it reads in the performance.

Last week, we saw Dr. Martin take down a pack of wolves to save Elena’s friends. Does that make it safe to say Elijah wasn’t lying about his deal?
Yes, he’s clearly orchestrating these things. That was his mayhem. He’s acting as a godfather at this point... He’s ultimately playing chess with these kids.

Have you met Joseph Morgan? Are you excited to see what he’ll bring to the table as Klaus?
I haven’t. I’ve seen a little bit of his stuff, but I don’t know enough about Joseph to make a comment. I’m excited that there’s the idea that there could be a war between us, because I think that would be the most exciting thing in this show, like an exponential curve at the end of the second season.

Does Elijah know Isobel?
He’s aware of everybody. That’s the thing about Elijah, the only thing that slipped through the cracks was the potential of this doppelganger... The moment there is information to be had, he’ll have it. Nobody will be better researched or more equipped.

Will we see Isobel again this season?
They give me the script right before I film, and I have not seen any Isobel.

Any spoilers for the rest of the season?
Damon has been pissing me off lately, so I’ll give him a slap on the wrist if he gets too close. It’s funny; I’m talking as Elijah now. Elena is going to be in danger if they don’t do what I decree must be done. Also, I like the look of the Jenna girl, she looks sweet. I’ll go hang out with her for a while, she’s cute.

What else do you have in the works?
I’m finishing up post production on a movie called Broken Kingdom, which I performed in, wrote and directed. My wife, [Rachael Leigh Cook] stars in it as well, and it’s a very different role for her. She plays a real woman.

Steven R. McQueen about Bonnie, Jeremy & Klaus

Quantrell D. Colbert/The CW
There comes a time on every vampire-themed show when a character stops cowering in the corner, pulls on a pair of big-boy pants and starts kicking some ass.
That time has come for Jeremy Gilbert, says the devilishly cute Steven R. McQueen, who was kind enough to let us in on his character's upcoming storyline. And guess what? It's about to be kicked up a notch.
And that notch-kicking starts as soon as this Thursday.

MORE:The Vampire Diaries: Tyler Talks Kissing Caroline and Trouble Coming to Town
"The next episode is a big one for Jeremy," Steven tells us. "Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Caroline (Candice Accola) start getting involved and start taking action in trying to find out what's going on with Klaus and what problems are starting to head their way." OK, Bonnie and Caroline get involved with some Klaus drama. But why is next episode a big one for Jeremy? Thankfully, Steven elaborated.
"Jeremy goes from cowering in the corner to an annoying little gnat," he laughs. "There's always something going on, and Jeremy is curious and quick-witted. He has strength of will that most people don't have. And I feel like a gnat because I'm very involved in the situation and I usually cause trouble."
So, Jeremy isn't exactly arming himself with sawed-off shotguns and hopping on motorcycles to battle evil vampires, but Steven would be more than happy to take on that kind of role. "I'm not against that idea by any means!" he says excitedly. "That's up to [show runners] Kevin [Williamson] and Julie [Plec]. Of course I'd love to get a sawed-off shotgun and put my kickboxing training to good use and go for it. But at the end of the day, that's not my call to make."

Kickboxing? Oh, this we gotta see. Memo to The Vampire Diaries powers that be: Let's put Steven in a leather jacket, throw him on a motorcycle, and make him a hero like his famous grandfather! Then again, Jeremy might be too busy dealing with the biggest, baddest vampire coming to Mystic Falls.
Kevin and Julie

Quantrell D. Colbert/The CW
"Klaus is the most powerful vampire there is. He has power over every other vampire and he can compel every vampire," Steven says. "He's the guy with all the power. And his intentions aren't all that great. He's trying to sacrifice someone in my family and I don't want that to happen. We're trying to do everything we can to stop it."

"We" as in...Jeremy and Bonnie? Those two have had some cute little moments in recent episodes, and when we asked Steven if we're ever going to get more than just moments, he responded with some good news for Jeremy-Bonnie fans. "I think when she's at ease he shows extreme respect for her interests, and when Jeremy sees something he wants, he goes for it," he tells us. "I like this next episode that's coming up, and after that a lot of the Bonnie-Jeremy stuff."

Prepare for more Steven R. McQueen on your screen, TVD fans! We doubt any of you will have problems with that. Would you like to see Jeremy be more of a badass? Or should he leave that up to the experts? Let's discuss and speculate, shall we?

Kiss between Bonnie and Jeremy?

The extended promo for this Thursday’s episode of The Vampire Diaries shows werewolves both interrupting Elena’s and Stefan’s ill-timed romantic getaway and torturing Damon. What it doesn’t show: We may finally see Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) kiss. “Things definitely start to heat up and they start becoming a little more involved,” McQueen tells EW. (Even though we saw them walk away from Jonas last week arm-and-arm, they aren’t yet together, he says. We didn’t miss an off-screen hook up.) Told that Kevin Williamson has teased that we’ll see a kiss “sooner rather than later,” McQueen still plays coy when asked if this is, in fact, the hour. “I would watch this next episode and see,” he says. Assuming he’s already filmed the kiss to air at some point, we asked him to describe the staging. “If this hypothetical kiss happened,” he says, “I might have just grabbed her and gone for it. I don’t know.” (Knowing that Jeremy trying to kiss Bonnie at the end of the December cliffhanger was McQueen feeling the moment and improvising, we’d like to believe this.)
McQueen’s also purposefully vague while answering a few other burning questions:

• Will Luka and Jonas ever use Jeremy to get to Bonnie? “There’s definitely a conflict coming up,” he says, before clamming up.

• What impact will Uncle John’s return have on Jeremy? “Jeremy and Uncle John’s relationship is as complicated as they come,” he says. “One half of him is interested in Uncle John. He knows more about his father than Jeremy does, and Jeremy’s just finding out that his father was involved in this whole vampire-hunting world. He’s also involved in this family legacy that I’m supposed to follow. The other half of Jeremy doesn’t believe vampires are such bad people. He’s friends with some and was in love with another — and Uncle John killed her. He’s pulled in two different directions. I think at some point Jeremy is going to be trained in the art of vampire-hunting. Whether that’s Uncle John or Alaric has yet to be seen.”

• As the show’s gotten darker, we’ve seen more action sequences. Will Jeremy get physical? “I hope so. I hope the day comes when I get to roll up on a motorcycle with a sawed-off shotgun,” he says, “but that has to be written.”

• Has he ever asked the writers why Jeremy’s sister, Elena, who we’re told needs to be sacrificed by a wolf or vampire to break a curse, can’t just wear the ring he’s currently sporting that keeps its human bearer from dying a supernatural death? “I haven’t asked it, just because I want to keep wearing it. [Elena's sibling] is a four-year-old girl named Margaret in the books,” he says, “and that’s not exactly job security on my side. [In a pleading voice] I’m hoping to keep that ring on my finger.”

• Will we see more scenes between Jeremy and Damon? “We’ll see. I think Jeremy losing his father at such a young age, he’s always looking for a father figure. He saw that in Damon for awhile, until he realized that Damon causes more trouble than good,” he says. “I don’t think Jeremy looks up to Damon like he once did.” (Is that because a frustrated, heartbroken Damon snapped his neck in the season 2 premiere and Jeremy only survived because he was wearing that ring? Some people really need to learn to forgive.)

LJ Smith fired from writing her own story...

A few rumours had been going around but this message on her personal blog seems to confirm the fact:

First, I want to thank my readers for all their messages of support. I’ve gotten far too many emails to answer, and I really appreciate the kindness and emotional sustenance you’ve given to me at this difficult time.

Second, if you’ve asked me a question about the future books or the endgame of The Vampire Diaries and I’ve been vague about what’s in store, I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize. I really wasn’t looking forward to the day when I would have to talk about this.

Third, and most importantly, I want to ask anyone who was thinking of it, not to boycott Harper’s or anyone. It just doesn’t make sense. Although I wanted and still want more than anything to be able to continue The Vampire Diaries series myself, there’s no point in not trying the new books. (And remember, for fans of Bonnie and Damon, and strict Stefan and Elena fans, the immediate dynamics may be more to your liking.) Besides which, Midnight, which is all mine, is coming out in March, and I believe there may be some of my writing in Phantom.

Thanks again to all the fans who have shown loving and loyal kindness to me.

Elena & Damon

Is there hope for Damon and Elena on Vampire Diaries? — Carla

NATALIE: "In the lifetime of the series, every fan who 'ships either side of the triangle will have moments of hope," executive producer Julie Plec says. Does that mean we should stop asking? Well... "Stefan, Elena and Damon are a series-long journey for us," she says. "There are big moments coming up all around for them, lots of evolution of friendships and relationships, and questions of who loves who." You heard it, Dalena fans — moments!

Lauren Cohan Interview

It turns out, you can’t actually sleep when you’re dead. At least not if you’re an actress whose character got as meaty and moving a send-off as Lauren Cohan’s Rose did on the Jan. 27 episode of The Vampire Diaries. The actress has already moved on to filming a five-episode arc on NBC’s Chuck, which begins Feb. 21 when Valentine’s Day is interrupted because a reclusive young heiress named Vivian McArthur (Cohan) needs protection in England. When we finally caught up with her last Friday, she’d just spent the morning testing for three pilots — a mix of cable and broadcast, comedy and drama. She hadn’t even had a chance to watch the previous night’s episode of Vampire Diaries yet, so she had to ask us who Damon (Ian Somerhalder) took a bath with. (Then she genuinely sighed “ooh” as we described the tears in his eyes as he poured his heart out to his new distraction before biting her during tub sex. “That’s what makes him so sexy, that tortured soul,” she said. The episode was waiting for her on iTunes.)

Cohan says she knew that her arc was a limited run, but she had no idea how Rose would exit — with Damon mercy staking her after Jules’ werewolf bite — until she read the script, and cried. “So dramatic,” she says. “It’s not usually what you expect to get to do when you’re guest-starring on a TV show. I just thought it was such a moving script. First and foremost, she’s in that dream sequence, and she’s just so happy. Just that moment where she’s enjoying the sunshine. Wow. Jesus. What a huge thing that was for her. She’s overwhelmed by that, and then realizing why [Damon] was doing it… The peace of knowing that he was making those last moments enjoyable and just letting herself enjoy it.”

As for Rose’s final undead moment, Cohan says there was a lot of conversation about how to stage it. “Did we want Damon to be looking at her when he did it, or with her strength being totally gone, was he holding her?” She and Somerhalder had to deal with a bit of extra drama (or comedy) with a malfunctioning stake. “There’s a series of stakes that they use for the vampire stunts. Sometimes it’s a rubber stake. Sometimes it’s a solid stake with a rubber tip, and you just use that to mime going toward someone. Sometimes it’s a retractable stake. And if it’s going into a dummy, then it might be a full-on solid stake. You have to keep track of which ones you’re using, and all the protocol for each one. Our stake was retractable. I had all this padding where he as gonna plunge it into my chest, and we practiced it a couple of times. When you turn the stake a quarter it [retracts] all the way in, and when you turn it off that quarter turn, it doesn’t go in. So Ian has to make it look like he’s really plunging it, and the thing kept sticking,” she says, laughing. “So after 10 minutes of reassurance that it was gonna be fine, we’re about to do the take and then the stake won’t actually retract. We’re like ‘Ohmygod, stop! Stop! Stop!’ So it actually felt really real. Obviously nobody would get hurt, but it was just funny.”

Another fun tidbit: We asked Cohan about that conversation between Rose and Elena that was in the promo but not in the actual episode — specifically that line in which Rose told Elena it was okay to love both Salvatore brothers. She says they shot a bunch of stuff that she assumes was trimmed for time, including “a deranged rampage through the parking lot, which really felt like the peak of the dementia” in between Rose killing the janitor and the car couple, as well as that revealing portion of her chat with Elena. “I loved that piece between Rose and Elena because I think Rose looked at Elena like a younger sister in a way, and it really was okay that Elena loves different things in both of these men. Being conflicted doesn’t make her a bad person. It was almost like Rose needed to tell her to not be so hard on herself and to not give up,” she says. “It was really cute because Elena tried to cover the fact that she does love them both in a way. That’s when Rose kinda pushed her to say it. [She's saying] ‘Come on. Just admit it. You don’t have to feel bad about it,’ in the same breath as, ‘Own who you are. It’s okay to let them fight for you. It’s okay to want to live. And it’s okay to be conflicted. Keep going.’”

Cohan says she would be open to the idea of returning to the show somehow — if the writers intentionally left open what Damon did with her body after showing it to Sheriff Forbes in the trunk of his car in the woods. In the meantime, she’s enjoying her time on Chuck. ”This character’s fun. She’s actually been such a nice departure from the dark ages,” she jokes. “She’s not quite bumbling. She’s a well-educated person with no purpose, who just kinda gets unwittingly wrenched into this CIA world. This girl is kinda like, ‘I don’t know what to do with my life,’ and then the CIA arrives, and they’re like, ‘You have all these skills, come with us.’ We don’t actually know what her role is gonna be. The CIA comes to protect her, and then events turn.” Cohan says those skills involve weaponry, languages, and karate, and that Vivian is also an equestrian. Fortunately, Cohan is a quick learner. “It was really funny because in the break down, it said, ‘Must be an experienced horse rider,’ and I went for the audition and I booked the job, and I called them, and I said, ‘They do know that I couldn’t just jump on a horse and, like, run, right?’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s fine.’ In the end, they don’t want any of their actors doing the really dangerous stuff anyway. They teach you as much as they can, and then they have amazing pros do the other stuff.”

Ian Somerhalder Interview

JJ: So there’s a new lady in Damon’s life, a reporter named Andie Star. What can you say about her?

IS: Andie’s awesome. She’s hot, quick, quirky, and witty. Even under compulsion she doesn’t give Damon sh–. What she does is she fires back at him as quickly as he fires off to her, and what’s cute about it is that he has this funny little answer yet he ties her scarf around her neck so no one can see. It’s just awesome. I love the dynamic that they created with her and they’re sort of this little team. She’s helping him execute his plans and they’re really just an unlikely team.

JJ: And who’s playing her?

IS: Her name is Dawn Olivieri. She’s a good friend of mine and I’ve known her for years and I was stoked when I heard that she was coming [to Vampire Diaries]. I don’t know how long we can keep her because she’s just got cast opposite Don Cheadle [in House of Lies] so I don’t think we get to keep her, but it’s bad for Damon and great for her.

JJ: Executive producer Julie Plec teased, “We have this impending ritual, the sacrifice that will break the curse of the sun and the moon — that’s where we’ll end our season”. Can you talk or hint a little bit about that?

IS: It’s funny because we get our scripts just a couple of days before. I know that there’s going to be a pretty sizable showdown between the werewolves and vampires and I can’t imagine Klaus not showing up after all this talk. So I don’t know, I can only imagine the way I see things going so there will be a big showdown, its a problem. Damon forged these relationships, found himself caring in places and times when its very intermediate, but I think protecting Elena and his home from one entity that’s more powerful or could possibly kill him is enough. Protecting her too is very difficult and it’s wearing on him and the couple is starting feel emotional and start not being able to understand how to grapple with all this emotion, it’s really tough.

JJ: Besides reading the scripts, is there a certain thing you always do to get into character?

IS: Yes. I think being able to pool from your life’s present, past, and future and knead the thread of life into that text is always a good idea. But there’s a woman I work with, and she’s probably one of the most renowned acting coaches walking on the face of the planet. She trains a lot of actors that we’ve grown to respect and I worked really closely with her day in and day out. There is a significant amount of preparation that goes into this.

JJ: Let’s talk about your IS Foundation. Has environmental protection always been a passion? Was there a specific experience that influenced your decision to launch it?

IS: Environmental protection was always a big thing for me. I grew up on the marshes of Louisiana; literally my front yard was thousands of acres of marsh. It was all in my dream to be part of an organization that protected the environment, but the Gulf oil spill was ultimately what made me drop the hammer immediately and say that “this is enough”. Watching my entire home be destroyed because of the lack of regulatory commissions for fossil fuels and the amount of back scratching that goes into the petroleum industry - or even any large industry. It changed my life and the lives of a lot people … This also involves cruelty and overpopulation issues with animals, so this is one of the most phenomenally inspiring thing I’ve ever been in involved in. The amount of support for this foundation goes above and beyond. Obviously it’s invariably difficult to raise money in a time of economic depression which we’re about to get into, but it’s so inspiring. Put it this way: a 6-year-old girl sent me an e-mail saying she gave our foundation her tooth fairy money to help save the planet and it blew my mind. She asked what she can do to help and just thought that this girl is going to be the president one day.

JJ: Any plans to travel with the foundation? There was a report saying you were heading to Africa and South America?

IS: Yeah, I’m not going to get to do Africa this year, but I am going to be in Central and South America. We’ll be going with The Global Alliance for Conservation, which is one of the largest environmental protection organizations in the world. Don Cheadle and I have signed on to be the two spokesperson for this … I’m going to Central and South America to look at the areas hit hard by deforestation and to figure out how to reforest them sustainably, efficiently, and economically to find ways to put people to work. I actually can’t sleep at night sometimes and I would go on my own foundation’s website and find more factors. So every tree we save, we have been able to put the actual cost benefit analysis of, so it recycles an X amount of dollars worth of air and water. Next Year we’ll be in Africa.

JJ: That’s awesome. Besides your busy schedule with the foundation, do you have any other upcoming projects?

IS: We’ve been looking very diligently, we’re looking for anything that fits into our time frame so hopefully the next time I talk to you I’ll have something interesting for you.

JJ: Got to ask, you were included in the most recent issue of People’s Sexiest Man Alive. What did you think about that? Did you get teased about it by anyone on set? What was the feedback?

IS: I become tongue-tied because of stuff like that. Of course I get teased by stuff like that, but we all have the ability to get the best out of ourselves and those around us. I think it’s awesome that People magazine was crazy enough to include me in that roster of pretty bad ass dudes, but if they’re crazy enough to believe it then I’m stoked.

Are we going to see the 'old' Damon again?

Wendy: As hot as angry Damon is on The Vampire Diaries, I have a soft spot for good Damon. Tell me he chills out in upcoming episodes.

Well, he's going to try. Ian Somerhalder promises us that much. "He's trying his damnest to keep it together," he tells us. At least Damon knows he's miserable. So, that's step one, right?

You wanna see, who's gonna play Klaus? Take a look...

Vampire Diaries‘ exhaustive search for an actor to play legendary bloodsucker Klaus has narrowed to one.
Sources confirm to me exclusively that English thesp Joseph Morgan is nearing a deal to join the cast as the oft-referred-to-but-never-seen member of the Originals.

Joseph who?! I’ll get to that in a second, but first you should know that Morgan’s near-casting caps a months-long manhunt for Klaus. In a recent interview with EW.com, exec producer Julie Plec estimated that more than 100 actors across multiple continents had read for the part. Plec also hinted that despite fans pitching some big-name actors for the role — Jason Dohring, Henry Cavill, and Gale Harold to name a few — they would likely hand the plum part to a relative unknown.

“This idea that there might be somebody out there that no one’s really familiar with yet that can be a new fresh face that we can exploit…in all the good ways… [is exciting],” Plec told EW. “I think our show works so well because we don’t really stunt cast.”
Which brings us back to Morgan. Although the 30-year-old actor’s resume consists primarily of British films and TV series, he appeared stateside in Oliver Stone’s Alexander and the Russell Crowe blockbuster Master and Commander. He also starred opposite Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk in ABC’s Ben-Hur miniseries.

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to trust Plec and fellow EP Kevin Williamson’s instincts here. They have a pretty good track record when it comes to casting Diaries’ biggest roles so they’ve earned the benefit of our doubt. You with me? Against me? Somewhere in the middle? Hit the comments and tell me all about it.

Synopsis for The House Guest - 2x16

Katherine’s mind games are getting on everyone’s nerves, but Damon, Stefan and Elena realize that her knowledge of Mystic Falls history will help them stay alive. Frustrated with her relationship with Matt, Caroline finds a new way to get his attention. Alaric makes a surprising confession to Jenna, and Katherine makes a different kind of confession to Damon. Stefan and Bonnie try to convince Jonas and Luka that they should all be working together, but Jonas’ lack of trust leads to a violent and fiery confrontation.

An interview with Ian Somerhalder about his character Damon on TVD (Spoiler Alert!!)

PopWrap: First of all, congrats on an amazing episode last week. What did you make of Damon's closing breakdown?
Ian Somerhalder: Aw, thanks man. It was a great one. The thing is that I am as confused as an actor as Damon is as an individual by virtue of the fact that he is such a phenomenally different character than I ever anticipated or planned on him being. Which is great because when it throws him for a loop, it throws me for a loop, so I'm constantly being kept on my toes.

PW: Yea, he does seem to be having a bit of a crisis right now.
Ian: And we all have those cliché man’s existential crisis moments – goodness, as a young man in my twenties, I was in search of finding an answer for it. He truly is experiencing, more than likely, for the first time in 150 years how this whole "feeling" thing works. It is really difficult to grapple with.

PW: You said before that Damon today is totally different than how you envisioned him. Could you expand upon that?
Ian: I had called Kevin [Williamson, co-creator], freaking out because I wasn’t ripping more people’s heads off and dancing half-naked with sorority girls. He told me, “Damon is evolving.” There is a 100 episode arc to this guy’s journey and he must evolve … or die.

PW: So you just weren't anticipating his evolution happening so quickly?
Ian: One of the appeals of the show is that it moves very quickly, which is fun because TV doesn’t typically move that way all the time. So Damon went through a pretty quick process of coming to town with an agenda to finding out that his agenda was completely wrong to staying in town because he started to care for people. That raised the stakes for him in a big way. When you forge relationships, you run the risk of caring. That makes it hard to walk away. And Damon, unfortunately, found himself subconsciously wanting to nurture those relationships. Now, he really cares about someone he wouldn’t have normally given a flying s*** about, pardon my French [laughs].

PW: It seems like his relationship with Elena almost opened him up to care about Rose so deeply.
Ian: We’re starting to see human similarities in him, which I understand are important, but it’s a fine balance between having him be Damon but not be Stefan. Stefan has this beautiful humanity but in all reality, Stefan has just grown really good -- through lots of discipline -- at controlling his urge to kill. Because don’t forget, Stefan natural instincts are to kill.

PW: Will Jules find herself on the receiving end of that smile?
Ian: Jules poses a threat to all that Damon stands for right now. Yes, she’s extremely hot, but a major pain in the ass. So we're really going to show that when someone you deeply care about needs you, you’ll set aside your feelings, your ability to feel pain. Think of that mother who lifts a wrecked car off her child. We can find insane amounts of strength when it comes to protecting those we care about. He’s fighting for something that’s bigger than he is and that changes everything.
